A little more music video madness

The last few days, I've highlighted some particularly awesome videos by EMA [check those out here and here]. Of course, she's not the only female musician keeping it real right now. To prove my point, I'm posting the music video for Bizness by tUnE-yArDs. Her music is fresh and exciting, and her performance at Pitchfork Music Festival this year was inspired. So, check it out!

Download Pusha T's new track Bodywork

Give it a listen below, and if you dig it, you can download it right here. It's a solid track without much serious tagging, and they uploaded it in 320 which is fucking awesome.

Another wonderful video from EMA

I know I just posted the video for "Milkman" by EMA. So, it's probably a little soon to be posting "California." BUT IT'S SO GOOD! Musically, it's a triumph. Earnest lyricism, buried in layers of noisy, warm, at times borderline-ambient instrumentation. It has hints of shoegaze, grunge, and country. Sung from the gut, goes straight to the heart. I just can't get over how much I love it. So, please do take the time to become fans.

A decent scan of the cover for Relax by Das Racist

Someone has to put a decent scan of this album cover online. I don't know how I feel about this record, but I do know how annoying it is not to have an image of acceptable quality for one's itunes. So, here's one of respectable size. No need to say thank you. I'm already thanking myself.

An entry in the dada dictionary

What is an education? An untrustworthy friend, fickle rogue

What is a destiny? a porcelain box used for holding trinkets and knickknacks

What is philosophy? the distance between two adjacent angles

What is intellectual thought? an ex nihilo act of creation

What is history? a frayed piece of rope

What is sight? a glass of ice water with salt stirred into it

What is vision? a splinter in God's foot

One more free music post - Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire's new record Lost in Translation

It's got guest appearances by El-P, Das Racist and Danny Brown. Check it out because of the album art, keep listening because of the melodic production and tight wordplay.

If you only listen to two rock albums this year...

Make it these two. I'm not going to rate them on a scale from 0.0 to 10.0. I'm just going to say that they are perfect, and you are a fool if you don't give them a chance. To further make my case, here are links to some really cool interviews that Pitchfork has done with Girls and St. Vincent. I have also included a music video from each record. If you don't like the Girls track, check out some of their other stuff anyway. "Vomit" a lot heavier than their music tends to be, and another track is bound to get you hooked if that one doesn't.

Girls: Father, Son, Holy Ghost

St. Vincent: Strange Mercy

Recommended dose of real shit: Feast or Famine by DaVinci

I loved this book.

The story takes place in a run-down
Hollywood bar filled with sad, freaky
characters. I'm not sure that else to say.
It made me laugh out loud 4 times,
and nearly ruined an entire week
of my life. It's short (100-something pages),
and I paid very little money for it.
So, I recommend it highly. It's called
Ablutions, and I bought it on clearance
at Borders. Since you can't buy
anything at Borders anymore,
you can buy it at the store that
put Borders out of business.
Check it out here if any of that
sounded remotely appealing: Ablutions
