New Drake Video: "Headlines."

I feel like Drake doesn't mind being pigeonholed as a emcee for women. They buy an astonishing number of his records and throw hundreds of bras on stage at his shows. Let me just say, though, he is more than a sex symbol. Drake is a phenomenal rapper, and Take Care ranks high on my list of most anticipated fall releases. For some evidence, check out the video for "Headlines" (also, there's a free mp3 download right here).  Try not to smile when he says, "Listen to you expressin all them feelings. / Soap opera niggas sound like All My Children."

A little more music video madness

The last few days, I've highlighted some particularly awesome videos by EMA [check those out here and here]. Of course, she's not the only female musician keeping it real right now. To prove my point, I'm posting the music video for Bizness by tUnE-yArDs. Her music is fresh and exciting, and her performance at Pitchfork Music Festival this year was inspired. So, check it out!

Another wonderful video from EMA

I know I just posted the video for "Milkman" by EMA. So, it's probably a little soon to be posting "California." BUT IT'S SO GOOD! Musically, it's a triumph. Earnest lyricism, buried in layers of noisy, warm, at times borderline-ambient instrumentation. It has hints of shoegaze, grunge, and country. Sung from the gut, goes straight to the heart. I just can't get over how much I love it. So, please do take the time to become fans.
